When did it start?
I do not remember. I have always liked to travel.
But I remember when it was 1986. In Poland there is still communist poverty and reality. I was 10 years old and as part of some inter-parish cooperation I was going to France to spend part of my vacation in one of the French families.
For the first time in my life I was abroad. This was the first time I was on a plane. The first time I drank Donald’s juices (on the plane) and Coke (on the spot). The country of Western Europe was much more colorful than the People’s Poland.
It was a different world for me then. Other life. And I think it was then that I fell in love with traveling. Then I started to associate them with an amazing and beautiful experience. And it has remained so until today.
As I wrote, I am a sociologist.
Also a bit of a musician. I sing, play several instruments, I graduated from music school. I am not a biologist, historian or art historian (neither by education nor by passion), especially a painting historian … Who I am and who I am not determines to a large extent what I am looking for in my trips, and what not necessarily. As for art, I also like architecture and… culinary art. I really like eating local specialties … as long as … they don’t contain any pets. I have been a vegetarian for 24 years.
I am primarily interested in people, their culture, customs … Importantly, I am interested in living people. I love meeting local people, talking to them, observing how they live, how they behave … Not how they lived and what their predecessors had … I generally avoid museums. I also avoid trips organized by travel agencies. I like freedom and I want to enjoy, not only watch, often through the window of the coach. Sociologists would call it participant observation. But it’s not a science blog .
And I love music. The music of the place where I am, especially blues, jazz and Latin music. I’m looking for that everywhere. I also like dancing.
I like nature too. Beautiful plants, animals … But I like people the most. Of course, the friendly ones .
In addition to English, I communicate in French and Spanish, which allows me to understand the places I am drawn to. It also gives a lot of satisfaction. Language is an important part of any culture.
Why do I like traveling?
I often ask myself this question. There are many reasons. I will mention a few.
I distract myself from what I have every day.
Traveling allows me to look at my life and the culture in which I live, as it were, from the outside. Understand that my habits or beliefs are not the only ones possible. It also allows me to decide more consciously about my own beliefs and worldview. Exactly. I believe that the more I see the world, the better my view of it will be.
I believe that the world is too interesting and diverse to spend my whole life in one place. Still this curiosity: how is it elsewhere?
Traveling gives me such freedom that I am not tied to the place where I was born.
I like flying by plane and sitting by the window. The different arrangements of clouds and colors from sunrise and sunset are more beautiful to me than the prettiest paintings in galleries. Because alive. Natural.
So I watch and experience. When I travel, I feel alive. I live from travel to travel. I live in Warsaw on a daily basis and I do something completely different and I earn my living. So far, I have been to 53 countries.
After each longer or more exotic, I organized a photo show for my friends. For years, several friends have been persuading me to start a travel blog and share my stories with a larger group of people. In the end, I made up my mind. Maybe you will also be interested in my travel stories … Various journeys … Not only geographical ones … Because after all, all life is a journey.
